Instruments Taught

Student Center

Concert Percussion:

There are many instruments that a concert percussionist needs to know such as snare drum, mallet instruments, timpani, and a wide variety of accessories. Depending on student interest, all or a portion of these may be studied. Lessons will be focused on technique and reading ability among other things. All of these instruments are available in my home studio with the exception of timpani, which will take place at one of the schools in the area.

Drum Kit:

A proficient drumset player needs to be able to keep good time in several different musical styles that include jazz, latin, rock, and funk among others. Lessons will focus on stick technique, time keeping, counting, fills, play-alongs, listening, transcription, rudiments, and 4-limb independence. If the student is advanced it is recommended that all styles be studied.

Hand Drumming:

There are countless types of hand drums throughout the world, and unfortunately I do not own them all. You can, however, study the most common ones such as congas, bongos, djembe, and darbuka. Lessons in this area will focus on how to play with others as well as the technique and reading skills needed to do so.
